Lent at The Chapel
Lent remembers the 40 days Jesus spent fasting and praying in the wilderness before his crucifixion. We take this time as an opportunity to pray, fast, and grow in our dependence on God.
The Lent Spiritual Workout Plan
This Lent, we’re inviting you into a shared spiritual workout, a way to slow down, fix our eyes on Christ, and form deeper disciplines of faith together at The Chapel.
READ. MEMORIZE. FAST. PRAY.
Make the workout plan your phone lock screen or print it out!
Spiritual Disciplines
Read the Bible alongside our church for this season of Lent. If you already have a Bible reading plan don’t feel like you need to change it, but if you’re looking for somewhere to start, or want to crank up the intensity in your rhythms, read the weekly readings with us.
READ.
"Fasting is the practice of resisting one thing so we can learn to embrace another." - Justin Whitmel Earley
Join our church in fasting from technology and food this Lenten season. Each week, we’re going to fast from one thing, some examples are social media, TV, and food. If you are able, join us as we fast.
FAST.
PRAY.
The Chapel’s prayer rhythms:
Morning - Pray through the Lord’s prayer and for lost people to meet Jesus
Midday - Pray through the Psalm of the day (if it’s Feb 27th, pray through Psalm 27)
Night - Pray gratitude to God for the day He gave you
Commit to memorizing one or two verses each week. We’re going to be memorizing verses that have come up in the Bible texts we’ve been preaching through. To help, try reading the verse out loud 10 times, writing it down on a note card or journal, or set it as your phone lock screen.
MEMORIZE.
During Lent, we want to grow in deeper dependence on Christ as a church, namely through fasting and prayer. Fasting is an opportunity to spend time in prayer when you would normally do something else. If you are fasting from a meal, use that mealtime for prayer. If you are fasting from social media, pray when you would normally check your phone.
